The scientific goal of the GNP is to understand genetic and molecular basis of development, function and disease of the Nervous System. The program covers three main areas:
Developmental Neurobiology, focussing on the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms that operate very early during embryonic development to ensure patterning and cell fate specification in the nervous system,
Genetics of Cognitive Functions, with ans special emphasis in two pathologies, Williams-Beuren Syndrom and Autism Spectrum Disorder,
Neuropharmacology, focussing on the neurobiological substrate of drug addiction, pain, affective and eating disorders, with a main interest in the development of research lines aimed at the identification of new therapeutic targets in the Central Nervous System.

Integrative pharmacology and systems neuroscience The Integrative Pharmacology and Systems Neuroscience Group (FINS) is the new name adopted by the former Human Pharmacology and Neuroscience Clinical Research Group.
The FINS continues to study pharmacology in a generic way, but with a strong focus on translating research into neuroscience. Our group is linked to the Spanish Research Network on Addictive Disorders (RTA) and the Spanish Biomedical Research Centre Network on the Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN). The FINS facilities are located within the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB). At the PRBB we have more than 200 m2, with an infrastructure of conventional analytical chemistry and molecular biology laboratories as well as an additional 200 m2 dedicated to clinical research for the performance of Phase I and II clinical trials.
The FINS research group, together with the IMIM bioanalysis and analytical services research group and the Proteomics Research Group from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra constitute the BAPP (Bioanalysis, Proteomics and Pharmacology), a member of TECNIO, the group created by ACC1Ó that brings together the main experts in applied research and technology transfer in Catalonia. The BAPP is a reference in the field of chemistry linked to pharmacology, toxicology and the development of new drugs. The BAPP centre develops lines of research that enable:
The development of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies to treat: i) syndromes and diseases that cause intellectual disability or cognitive impairment, ii) addiction to abused drugs and iii) infectious veterinary diseases.
The development of new analytical methodologies to detect biomarkers in the fields of environmental sciences, toxicology, nutrition, neurosciences and the consumption of doping agents. The FINS actively participates in the teaching of pharmacology and toxicology in the degrees of Human Biology and Medicine at the universities Pompeu Fabra(UPF) and Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB).

Este máster aporta los conocimientos interdisciplinarios (desde la biología molecular hasta los estudios cognitivos y de la neuroimagen), para que los futuros investigadores de investigación básica y clínica en neurociencias puedan abordar los problemas de manera traslacional e incorporarse a laboratorios de instituciones públicas y privadas. Este máster también se dirige a profesionales (médicos, psicólogos, veterinarios, etc.) que quieran actualizar sus conocimientos en los aspectos más relevantes de las neurociencias. La orientación del máster de Neurociencias es preferentemente investigadora.
Estos estudios se dirigen a personas interesadas en las cuestiones siguientes:
Cómo el cerebro humano codifica la visión del color o del discurso oral.
Las bases moleculares y celulares de la adicción a las drogas.
Por qué las neuronas no se regeneran espontáneamente.
Los mecanismos fisiológicos de comportamientos complejos, como la memoria o el aprendizaje.
Comprender desde un punto de vista biológico los trastornos psiquiátricos.
Los avances en terapias farmacológicas y regenerativas para las enfermedades neurodegenerativas y traumas del sistema nervioso central.
La utilidad de los animales de experimentación para estudiar enfermedades neurológicas.
En el máster de Neurociencias se tratan ampliamente estas cuestiones entre muchas otras.
Objetivos
Los objetivos generales del máster son los siguientes:
Adquirir la transversalidad de conocimientos para garantizar una visión multidisciplinaria de las tareas desarrolladas por los científicos.
Desarrollar la capacidad de aplicar el método científico, el pensamiento creativo, lógico y crítico.
Actualizar conocimientos moleculares y celulares, e integrarlos para abordar aspectos como la comprensión, la prevención o el tratamiento de enfermedades que afectan al sistema nervioso.
Obtener la formación científica en el ámbito biomédico que haga de puente entre la investigación básica y la clínica.
Promover la interacción entre la universidad y la empresa, e impulsar el desarrollo y la gestión de centros I+D y fundaciones de investigación.
Obtener la formación de experto en el ámbito biomédico de las neurociencias para ejercer de docente.
